Star gazing in Tenerife: a unique experience
Even if you are not quite a fan of star gazing, maybe because you simply don´t have the time, you don´t like it or simply feel like it´s something you can do anywhere, allow us to prove you wrong. Tenerife is known worldwide for having one of the best, cleanest and clearest skies all year round in the whole world. It is actually considered to have the best skies for star gazing in all Europe. Rent a car in Tenerife and visit every star gazing site this island has to offer, especially dedicated to those who love the night skies full of stars.
The very first spot we want to talk about is located north-west of the island. The Masca Viewpoint offers a view of at least three constellations (Pisces, Aquarius and Capricorn) and is located a kilometer above sea level. It is a good idea to rent a car in Tenerife and get to Masca by car mainly because it is a bit inaccessible by foot and it is far from civilization so be sure to take some provisions with you.
This star gazing viewpoint is located in El Teide, Spain´s highest peak. The view is unparalleled as it rises at 2.7 kilometers above sea level. From this viewpoint you can get an incredible view of the constellation of Cassiopeia. Also if the time is right and you turn your head slightly to the east you can watch the mythological winged horse, Pegasus, rise in the night. Pegasus is actually a square shaped cluster of stars.
El Palmar Viewpoint
Renting a car in Tenerife and driving north-west of the island guarantees you will get one of the best views of the Milky Way you can get and that is even without binoculars.
